Event Coordinated by the Congolese Cultural Centre

The event was organised by the Congolese Cultural Centre of Brussels, headed by Nancy Kawaya, and attended by local political figures. Brussels mayor Philippe Close, along with Bertin Mampaka and Lydia Mutyebele Ngoi, welcomed the artist in the City Hall’s historic venue. This meeting served to give an official seal to the concert and strengthen cultural ties between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Belgium.

A Warm Crowd and Festive Atmosphere

On Brussels’ Grand Place, a large and enthusiastic crowd gathered to see Koffi Olomide. Many were members of the Congolese diaspora, while curious tourists added to the mix. The atmosphere was filled with selfies, cheers and excited calls, as fans tried to capture the moment with their idol. Some, unfamiliar with the artist, were heard asking: “Who is this elegant man?” — prompting locals to explain his importance as a pillar of African music.

Showcasing Congolese Culture in the Heart of Brussels

From the balcony of City Hall, Koffi Olomide waved to the crowd, symbolising a cultural bridge between Kinshasa and Brussels. The event sparked spontaneous exchanges between cultures: Japanese, Korean and Chinese tourists were informed of Koffi’s influence on Congolese and African culture, as well as the historic connection between Congo, Belgium, and Europe. Known for his taste in fashion and avant-garde style, the artist once again stood out for his elegance and presence.

A Softer Image, A Date Confirmed

Far from the controversies or extravagant displays that sometimes surround him, Koffi Olomide appeared humble, approachable, and focused on the essentials: connecting with his audience and confirming his concert. After a heartfelt “walkabout” among the crowd, he departed to a round of applause and cheers. The Brussels audience now looks forward to 6 September at the ING Arena.
